Cupcake train

So I drew this at work, I wanted to draw a really cool flying train. But then I showed it to a friend and she pointed out that the engines looked like cupcakes. Which made it a lot less cool.

I think she was right, they do look like cupcakes.

Underlay // Reverse-Sketching

If you just want to draw something awesome and perfect, sometimes the quickest way is to use a computer generated model as an underlay. With all the perspective and proportion taken care of by the computer, you can focus on communicating whatever it is you want to communicate with the linework, colors, shading, etc.  It gives an effect of absolute precision, coupled with some liveliness. One of my colleagues calls it "reverse sketching."

I basically had two hours to draw something awesome, so I took a computer rendering I had in my portfolio and used it for the basis of this illustration. I can't really call it a sketch... more like a design painting. It's kind of fun sometimes just to draw when your deliverable is simply a pretty drawing.
